Call our Calgary team403-650-5232A 27°C swing in two minutes, on an exterior door
Chinooks are why exterior steel doors in Calgary need more attention than most. A steel door and frame expand and contract with each swing, and the anchoring, hinges and weatherstripping take the strain. On an exterior steel door in Calgary, how well the frame is anchored and sealed matters as much as the door itself.
Some openings don't match any standard size, and some projects need a door nobody stocks. We fabricate and modify doors and frames to fit, including custom sizes, new vision lites and hardware preps, and every modification is checked against fire rating, egress and barrier-free rules. See custom fabrication.
Stairwell, mechanical, washroom and back-of-house
Each of these openings asks something different of a steel door.
Stairwell doors
Almost always in a fire separation. A 2-hour stair shaft typically needs a door rated at least 1.5 hours. See fire-rated doors.
Mechanical and electrical rooms
Often rated, and some need temperature-rise doors to limit heat passing through to the cold side.
Washroom doors
Hollow metal doors fitted with restroom lock kits, operators and electric strikes for public washrooms.
Back-of-house and warehouse
They take carts, pallets and wind. Heavier gauges and stainless steel are worth pricing for these.
What we stock and where it goes
The same Canadian-made steel doors go into projects across two provinces.
20- to 180-minute ratings
Hollow metal fire doors rated at 20, 45, 90 and 180 minutes, plus temperature-rise and stainless steel doors, window kits and glazing.

limitlessdoors.com, Hollow Metal Doors & FramesA prison hardware schedule, copied into a multi-family build
We have seen prison hardware schedules copied into multi-family projects. We have seen duplicate hardware listed that doesn't fit, and parts specified that can't work together. Problems like these only surface when someone actually reads the schedule against the doors.
That's why every steel door project we take on starts with the Division 8 and 10 schedules. We check that the door, frame, hardware and ratings match each other and the drawings, and we rewrite the schedule before anything is ordered. See our specification and consulting service.
We'll check it against the drawings and quote the doors, frames and hardware together.
Is a hollow metal door the same thing as a steel door?
In commercial work, mostly yes. A hollow metal door is a steel door built with steel skins over a core. The core can be polyurethane, mineral or steel stiffeners, and it sets the door's insulation value and fire performance. The frame is a separate steel assembly with its own label on rated openings.
Can you add a window to an existing fire-rated steel door?
Only if the door's listing allows it, and only with a rated window kit and glazing. Cutting a lite into a labelled door without that voids the label and fails an NFPA 80 inspection. We supply rated window kits and glazing, and check the listing before any cutting starts.
Do you supply stainless steel doors?
Yes. Stainless steel doors are part of our hollow metal range, alongside temperature-rise doors and fire-rated doors from 20 to 180 minutes. Tell us where the door is going and how it's used, and we'll recommend the material and gauge.
Do you only supply the doors, or install them too?
We do both. We supply, install and service steel doors, frames and hardware across Calgary. On larger projects we can work as the door subcontractor under your general contractor, handling the doors, frames, hardware and glazing as one package.
