Fire Door Inspections in Calgary
Under Calgary Fire Department requirements, fire doors must be checked daily, operated monthly and kept working at all times. Your staff can handle the daily checks. We do the NFPA 80 inspection that looks at every door, frame and hardware set.

The Shamrock Hotel case turned on one fire code rule: closures in fire separations must not be obstructed, blocked, wedged open or altered in a way that stops them working. The Calgary Fire Department publishes cases like it, and they start with doors that looked fine from the hallway.
Our technicians are AAADM-certified and trained in NFPA 80 fire door inspection standards. On every fire door they inspect the door, frame and hardware as one assembly, verify the rating and label, test closing and latching, and check for gaps, damage and field modifications. Every door gets photos, notes and a recommendation, and we repair what fails.

- Count the doors. List every door in a fire separation: stairwells, corridors, service rooms, and doors between suites and public corridors.
- Unlock access. Have keys or fobs ready for mechanical rooms, electrical rooms and roof access.
- Pull old reports. Previous inspection reports tell us which doors have a history.
- Leave doors as they are. Don't tidy up first. If a door is usually propped open, we need to see that.

Will the Calgary Fire Department inspect my building?
They can. Calgary Fire Department inspectors carry out compliance inspections against the Alberta Edition of the National Fire Code, and enforcement actions are issued under the Alberta Fire Code. If you have a question about your own building's obligations, the department can be reached through 311.
Can fire door inspections be booked every year automatically?
Yes. Fire door inspections can be added to a preventative maintenance plan. Your doors are tagged and tracked in our system, and the inspection is booked as part of the regular visits, so you don't have to remember to call.
What happens to a fire door that fails?
It goes on the report with the reason and a recommended fix, whether that's a closer adjustment, a new latch or a full replacement. We can quote the repairs straight away. See commercial door repair in Calgary for the parts we replace.
