A kit turns a single-user washroom into one that anyone can use on their own. A push button outside opens the door. Inside, a second button locks it and turns on an occupied light outside. Pressing again, or leaving, unlocks it and opens the door.
The kit pairs a power door operator with an electric strike, a relay, a door contact and the push buttons. An emergency call station can be added, so someone who falls can call for help and staff outside see and hear it.

One outside to open, one inside to lock and release.

Under the National Building Code – 2023 Alberta Edition, in force since May 1, 2024, the Safety Codes Council notes that a universal washroom is required at every location where washrooms are provided. In larger assembly, care and mercantile buildings, universal washrooms also need an adult change table.
That has put a lot of single-user washrooms into renovation plans. We supply and install the door side of the job: operator, lock, buttons, occupied light and call station, wired and tested together.
Send a photo of the washroom door and frame, and we'll quote the kit.
Can a kit be added to an existing washroom door?
Usually. If the door and frame are sound, we add the operator, strike, contact and buttons. If the door is too narrow or the frame is damaged, we'll say so before quoting.
What happens if someone inside needs help?
An emergency call station inside lets them signal for help. Staff see and hear the alarm outside, and can open the door from outside in an emergency.
Does the lock release if the power goes out?
The kit is set up so the door can be opened from inside and released from outside in an emergency. We'll explain how your kit behaves before we leave.
Do you service washroom kits too?
Yes. Buttons, strikes, operators and lights can all be repaired or replaced, and kits can go on a maintenance plan.
