Edmonton's Access Design Guide requires every barrier-free entrance to have a power door operator needs a power door operator, and it names automatic sliding doors as best practice. A slider doesn't swing into anyone, and it opens the full width at once.
The same guide asks for room in vestibules and doors that still work when the power is out. We design the entrance around those points, then set the sensors and safety zones to ANSI/BHMA A156.10.
Choosing a sliding system
| System | Best for | Wall space needed |
|---|---|---|
| Bi-parting | Main entrances with steady two-way traffic | About half the opening width on each side |
| Single slide | Narrower openings, or a wall on one side only | About the full opening width on one side |
| Telescoping | Wide clear openings where walls are short | Less than a standard slider |
| Breakaway | Entrances that are also exits | Same as the base system |

If the power goes out, can people still get through?
They should. Edmonton's guide expects power doors to be manually operable in a power failure, so the panels can be pushed open by hand. We explain how your door behaves at handover.
Can you add an outer and inner door for a vestibule?
Yes. We supply both sets of doors and set them to work together, with the spacing and timing the entrance needs.
Do you service sliding doors you didn't install?
Yes. We repair most major brands. See automatic door repair in Edmonton for what we fix.
