Why towers use revolving doors

Tall buildings act like chimneys in cold weather. Warm air rises inside and pulls cold air in at street level, so a swing door in a tower lobby can be hard to open and lets a blast of air through. A revolving door is never open straight through, so it stops that draft.

That only works if the door is in good shape. Worn sweeps and seals let air past, and an automatic revolving door with tired sensors or a slipping drive stops and starts. We repair both kinds.

A swing door beside it

The City's standards call for a swing door with automatic control immediately beside any revolving door or turnstile.

Keep the side door working too

Next to most revolving doors is an automatic swing door for people who can't use the revolving door, and for strollers, carts and deliveries. When that side door fails, the entrance isn't accessible, even if the revolving door works.

We service both, often in the same visit. See automatic door repair in Calgary for swing door work, or add the entrance to a preventative maintenance plan.

FAQ

Common questions

Still unsure? Call Calgary at 403-650-5232.

Do you service manual and automatic revolving doors?

Yes. Manual doors need seals, bearings and speed controls kept up. Automatic ones add drives, controls and safety sensors.

Can a revolving door be used as an exit?

Only where its wings collapse to give a clear path, and the building usually has a swing door beside it as well. We test the breakout so the wings fold when they should.

When is the best time to service a lobby revolving door?

When traffic is lightest, which is usually early in the day. We'll work with building management to pick a time that keeps the lobby moving.
