Restroom Lock Kits in Edmonton
Edmonton's design guides expect barrier-free washroom doors to be power operated and single-user rooms to lock from inside. We supply and install the kits that make both work, from our McIntyre Industrial branch.

The City of Edmonton's Access Design Guide says interior barrier-free washroom entrances shall be either power operated or doorless. Most buildings can't go doorless, so the door gets an operator.
Single-user and gender-inclusive washrooms add a lock that has to be easy to use from inside. A restroom lock kit ties the operator and lock together, with an occupied light outside and an optional emergency call station.

What Edmonton's guides ask for
From the City of Edmonton Access Design Guide (2021) and its gender-inclusive washroom guide.
One gender-inclusive washroom
Where washrooms are provided, the guide asks for at least one barrier-free gender-inclusive washroom, as well as barrier-free stalls.

A single-user room with one toilet, or a toilet and urinal, needs a full-height door lockable from the inside.
City of Edmonton, Gender Inclusive Washroom Guide, 3.7.2.2.(17)Distress alarms considered
Where washroom monitoring is needed, the guide says distress alarms may be considered. A call station in the kit covers it.

Can a kit go on a washroom door we already have?
Most of the time. A solid door in a square frame takes the kit as is. A warped door or loose frame gets fixed first, and we'll say so in the quote.
Do gender-inclusive washrooms need a different kit?
Not usually. The same kit works on a single-user gender-inclusive room. The signage changes, not the hardware.
Can staff open the door from outside?
Yes. There's an override on the corridor side for emergencies.
