One part rarely fails alone

A door that drags, slams, won't latch or is hard to open usually has more than one cause. A sagging hinge pulls the latch out of line, so the closer works harder and the lock wears faster. Replacing just the lock won't fix that.

We look at the whole opening first: door size and weight, how much traffic it gets, accessibility needs, the existing preparations and any fire rating. Then we recommend the hardware that will make it work, whether that's one part or a full package.

Choosing the right hardware

Points that decide what goes on a commercial door.

Panic or fire exit hardware

Rated doors that need push-to-exit hardware take a listed fire exit device. Standard panic hardware isn't a substitute on a fire door.

CSDMA Canadian Fire Labeling Guide, 2025; NFPA 80

Mortise or bored locks

Both reach Grade 1 at 1,000,000 cycles. Mortise locks hold up better at Grade 2 and 3, testing at 800,000 cycles against 400,000 and 200,000 for bored locks.

Astragals on rated pairs

Pairs of doors and double-egress doors rated above 1-1/2 hours need an astragal where the leaves meet, following NFPA 80.

FAQ

Common questions

Still unsure? Call Calgary at 403-650-5232.

Our hardware is discontinued. What now?

We find a current product with the same function and finish that fits the existing cut-outs, so the door doesn't need new preparation. If nothing fits cleanly, we'll explain the options.

Do you work on aluminum storefront and wood doors too?

Yes. We supply and fit hardware for steel, wood and aluminum commercial doors.

Do you repair hardware or only replace it?

Both. Many closers and exit devices can be adjusted or rebuilt. See door hardware repair in Calgary and Edmonton.
