Restroom Lock Kits in Calgary
A universal washroom has to open with a button, lock from inside without grip strength, show outside when it's in use, and let someone call for help. One kit covers all four jobs.
Call our Calgary team403-650-5232Calgary's own standard for washroom doors
The City of Calgary's Access Design Standards say doors into accessible washrooms shall have power door operators. Where a building has full-time security, the standards add call buttons in every universal toilet room.
A restroom lock kit puts those pieces together: the operator, an electric strike, a door contact, a button on each side of the door, an in-use light, and an emergency call station if the building needs one.
How a kit works
Press to open
A button outside the washroom opens the door with the power operator.
Press to lock
Inside, one button locks the door and turns on the occupied light outside.
Call if needed
An emergency call button inside alerts staff, who can unlock the room with an override.
Press to leave
Pressing again, or using the lever, unlocks and opens the door for the next person.
Calgary standards and public washrooms
City of Calgary rules and programs that touch washroom doors.
Power operators required
Doors leading into accessible washrooms shall be equipped with power door operators, outside residential projects.

Call buttons or press strips go on the same wall as the side grab bar, so someone who has fallen can reach them.

Does every washroom need an emergency call button?
Under the City of Calgary's Access Design Standards, which apply to City buildings, universal toilet rooms need call buttons where the building has full-time security. Other buildings follow the building code and their own design brief. We can add one to any kit.
What if someone can't unlock the door from inside?
Staff get an override to unlock the room from the corridor. We walk them through it at handover.
Can you service an existing kit?
Yes. Buttons, strikes, lights, operators and call stations can be repaired or replaced, whoever installed them.
